[Special Interview] Zonoff sees accelerated growth of connected home market next year

mySMAhome.com was delighted to have had the opportunity to chat with Zonoff chief marketing officer Bob Cooper over the telephone late last month where he shared his ideas about Zonoff’s partnership with Staples and their plans for 2015.
Here's a brief excerpt:
Q: A quick backgrounder of Zonoff?
Zonoff, Inc. provides a comprehensive software platform to channel partners including retailers, service providers, consumer electronics OEMs and system integrators who, in turn, deliver “Connected Home” products and services to the consumer mass market.
Zonoff’s modular, cross-technology approach includes home, cloud and app software which can be combined to deliver best-of-breed home automation, remote control, energy management and safety monitoring, ranging from entry level to comprehensive solutions.
Q: Your partnership with Staples, how did it all begin?
We met Staples via a third party hardware vendor. Staples was exploring the idea of adding home and small office automation as a new retail category. Once they understood what we offered, they realized that it was an ideal fit for them. Staples looked to us for “best in class” recommendations of connected devices, and we did additional testing on each device to make sure it would create a great user experience for Staples’ consumers.
Q: According to The Inquirer, Zonoff’s new round of $31.8M will go to fund additional growth (including additional staff and space). That’s a huge increase from your previous $3.8M funding last year. What are we seeing here business-wise?
This VC raise represents the growing acceleration in this market. Companies are starting to realize that the connected home offers many strategic advantages to everyone, from the end-user consumer, to the companies who make the devices, to the companies who provide services like cable, telecom, security, energy and other others. The more devices that are connected, the more value is created. And once consumer decide on a platform, it will be difficult to get them to switch to another platform. That is why so many companies are getting involved now. And Zonoff is right there with a superior software platform that can also accommodate a wide variety of business models.
Q: What can we expect from Zonoff at the CES show next month in terms of new products and services? And will we be seeing new partners coming out with the Zonoff platform in 2015?
At CES, Zonoff will be featuring:
• A fully connected home display, powered by the CES Award Winning D-Link Staples Connect hub.
• Demos of our partner dashboards, storefronts, and integrated marketing tools - Gain insight on how Zonoff is uniquely positioned to drive competitive advantage and engagement with your brand.
• New brands and user interfaces - Exciting premium brands are being added to our curated and qualified eco-system, scheduled to hit stores in Q2 of 2015.
• Working examples of our Sentry wireless bridges that fulfill the vision of Zonoff's easily expandable and future-proof Distributed Radio Architecture.
Yes, we have new partners on board that have not yet been announced. Because of timing, however, those new partners will not be announced at CES.
